In January 2006 I got great news, I was accepted into nursing school. I began my program and soon found a lump in my left breast that felt like no other. In January 2007 I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast cancer, 36 year old and a mother of 4.
With a determination to beat cancer I attempted to complete the spring semester but the cancer was fighting just as hard as I was, so the chemo was increased leaving me unable to continue the semester. I had to stay out 2 more semesters because of residual side effects and it looked as if I had beat the cancer but it had robbed me of my chance to be a nurse.
With a determination to prove cancer was not going to win, I re-enrolled and was accepted and am pleased to say I am Yolanda Morris,RN class of 2010 of Vance Granville Community College. My motto was always “I going to Fight like hell, I have Cancer it doesn’t have me.”
Good luck and well wishes to all that are in the Battle.
