How We Collect Information About You
Information You Voluntarily Provide
UNC Health Care collects and maintains certain personal information about you when you upload your photo and story. Such information may include your name, mailing address, and e-mail address.
In addition, any user of this Site that submits photos, names and text does so voluntarily. Any personal information, including medical conditions, offered to the site is also voluntary and UNC Health Care is not liable for any information displayed on the Site. Administrators, employed by UNC Health Care, will be responsible for approving content and photography prior to being posted to the Site. However, the approval of the content by the UNC Health Care staff is only concerned with quality and appropriateness of information as it pertains to general use and purpose of the site for all age groups.
Information We Gather Automatically
The Site also collects certain other information that cannot identify you personally when you visit our web site. This information includes your IP address and your domain name. UNC Health Care logs these IP addresses and domain names, and aggregates them for system administration and to monitor the use of our site. We use the aggregated information to measure the number of visits to our site, the average time spent on our site, the number of pages viewed, and various other site statistics. This monitoring helps us to provide a more useful and engaging online experience to Site visitors, and helps us to improve the quality of our content.
The Site uses cookies in order to make the results available for your on-site searches. The Way We Use Information
We use the information you provide about you and/or someone else when submitting a Face/Story to manage the “Share Your Story” section of the site. We do not share this information with outside parties except in limited circumstances, including requests from legal authorities, when we may be required by law to disclose information you submit.
We use the email address you provide to send confirmation emails to that address when information has been sent and when information has been approved and posted to our site with regards to your submission. Such addresses are not used for any other purpose and are not shared with outside parties except as specified below.
You can opt-in to receive email updates from the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and/or UNC Health Care when submitting a Face/Story. Information you submit on our website will not be used for this purpose unless you fill out the registration form.
We use non-identifying and aggregate information to better design our website and to share internally to manage the site use. For example, we may report that X number of individuals visited a certain area on our website, but we would not disclose anything that could be used to identify those individuals.
Finally, we never use or share the personally identifiable information provided to us online in ways unrelated to the ones described above without also providing you an opportunity to opt-out or otherwise prohibit such unrelated uses.

UNC Health Care does not offer medical advice via E-mail or this Site in the absence of an existing physician-patient relationship. Any information contained in this Site is not to be used or interpreted in any way for medical use or diagnosis of any condition.
